Debating

Canadian Team Wins Internationally

Clare Moffat and Malina Imami (Branksome Hall, Toronto) took top honours in an International Competition held in the UK. Here is a brief report by Clare

"My partner and I were one of the two teams from Canada to qualify to compete in the International Competition for Young Debaters (ICYD) at the University of Cambridge in England. We viewed the ICYD as one of the most challenging tournaments of the year because there were 56 teams from countries around the world, including South Korea, Ireland, Greece, Scotland, England and Italy. The atmosphere of the tournament was fantastic because I had the chance to interact with so many talented participants both through the formal debates and the social events. The excitement of the international forum inspired us as we were fortunate to progress all the way though to the final round and ultimately earning the title of top team. The ICYD tournament was the most wonderful experience and we are thankful to the tournament organizers and all our fellow debaters."

Clare and Malina were given the opportunity to represent Canada based on their performance at the 2010 ESU debating competition.

Congratulations to both!
